Weinheber's suitcase - theater play
Wednesday, 05/11/2025 / 06:30 PM - 09:00 PM / Latücht Film & Medien e.V.
A journalist discovers the trace of a Jewish writer in an old suitcase - an evening of theater about memory, responsibility and history.
Weinheber's suitcase - play based on the novel by Michel Bergmann
Elias Ehrenwerth, a Berlin journalist, comes across an old leather suitcase with his girlfriend's initials while looking for a present. The find leads him onto an unexpected trail: the story of a Jewish writer who once had to flee from the National Socialists.
The play "Weinheber's Suitcase", based on the novel of the same name by Michel Bergmann, tells of fates caught between memory and forgetting, guilt and responsibility. It sheds light on how the past and present are interwoven - and poses the question of what each generation can learn from history.
The performance will be followed by a discussion with the performers. Together we want to talk about the culture of remembrance, responsibility and the importance of coming to terms with history in today's social context.
An event organized by the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
