Cinema in the Latücht: LOOKING INTO THE SUN

Cinema in the Latücht: LOOKING INTO THE SUN

Germany 2025, Director: Mascha Schilinski, Length: 149 minutes, FSK:16
DA: Lena Urzendowski, Laeni Geiseler, Zoe Baier, Hanna Heckt, Lea Drinda and others.

Schilinski and her co-author Luise Peter came up with the idea for "Looking into the Sun" on a farm in the Altmark. How did people live here, or more precisely: how did the women fare? The narrative spans a century; it unfolds in associative spurts, with leaps backwards and forwards from the German Empire to the Second World War and the GDR of the 1980s to the present day - with a labyrinthine, gloomy building as a laboratory of emotions. Seasonal work, family celebrations, swimming trips and meals vaguely structure the film, which is rich in ideas and meanders in all directions. The 'structural violence to which all the protagonists are exposed changes over time. In the beginning, it is downright coercive relationships and fisticuffs, later role pressures, toxic men and a sense of isolation in a busy society.
