The crackling relationship between Gary and Madison works so well because Linklater has cast relatively unknown actors. The proverbial "chemistry" between them is palpable in every scene. And a fake interrogation between the two, which is staged like a brilliant acting improvisation, is one of the most beautiful scenes in the film, which is full of charming ideas.
