THE PRICE OF RESISTANCE
Germany 2026, documentary, directed by Götz Schauder, runtime: 93 minutes, theatrical release: November 26, 2026
The Price of Resistance—a film about phantom pains 35 years after the fall of the Wall.
Gert Neumann was expelled from the Leipzig Institute for Literature in 1969. His novels were published without printing permission, and the Stasi kept him under surveillance. His son, Aram Radomski, was a political prisoner who secretly filmed environmental destruction in the GDR as well as the Leipzig Monday demonstrations in 1989. Both are united by their defiant stance against the GDR system—and yet a deep rift lies between father and son. Götz Schauder accompanies the two as they cautiously draw closer, telling a story not only of political resistance but also of a difficult family relationship. What is the price of resistance? And is it possible to tell a life story, with all its contradictions, without reducing it to simple categories? The film brings two generations into dialogue and offers a personal perspective on resistance, surveillance, and the lingering effects of the GDR’s past that extend into our own time. The film was shot on Lake Tollense near Neubrandenburg.
Following the screening, Gert Neumann, Aram Radomski, and director Götz Schauder will discuss the film and their personal experiences. The discussion will be moderated by Professor Carsten Gansel, chairman of the Mecklenburg Literary Society (Mecklenburgische Literaturgesellschaft e. V.).
