Day of the history of democracy 2026

On March 18, 2026, the Day of the History of Democracy will be celebrated for the first time in Germany under the patronage of Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

Neubrandenburg University of Applied Sciences and local remembrance initiatives are inviting people to come together to discuss why remembrance is important for our democracy.

Starting at 3 p.m., there will be a tour of the former Stasi remand prison on Neubrandenburg's Lindenberg and a discussion with contemporary witness Thoralf Maaß on site.

Meeting point: Neustrelitzer Str. 120B, 17033 Neubrandenburg (former prison).

Participants are then invited to coffee and cake at Neubrandenburg University of Applied Sciences.

In lecture hall 3 (main building, 1st floor) from 5:30 pm, local civil society initiatives will offer insights into their remembrance work, which they carry out in cooperation with Neubrandenburg University of Applied Sciences.
