Danceperados of Ireland - Life, Love, and Lore of the Irish Travellers

In the program “Life, Love, and Lore of the Irish Travellers,” the Danceperados turn their attention to the Irish nomads. The Travellers are an isolated minority with unusual customs and rituals. Many people know them from historical films, in which they are shown traveling through the countryside on horseback and in covered wagons. Superstition and family honor play a major role in their lives, as do dance and music. Some of Ireland’s greatest musicians and dancers were or are “Travelers.” Had the Irish nomads not held fast to their traditions even in times when their subculture was viewed as backward, Irish folk music might well have disappeared from the scene. Much like Native Americans, the Travellers, too, had to endure the loss of their way of life. Yet from this nomadic culture emerged a unique musical power. The Danceperados tell their story through moving songs, passionate dances, and an impressive multimedia presentation. This unique combination of dance, music, and visual elements creates an atmosphere that moves and inspires the audience.
