High-voltage fitter Hannes Blaschke and his wife Maxi, a bus driver, have a new addition to their family: Twins. This presents them with a problem. Their Trabant is too small to accommodate the large family, which also includes two sons and a dog. With the help of his brigade and a minister, Hannes manages to get a "Tschaika" - at a scrap price. After initial rejection, Maxi sees the state car as a commodity, while Hannes basks in the courtesy that is suddenly shown to him everywhere.
