As a former judge, Mariano De Santis should be practiced in making decisions. In his current office as President of the Republic, however, he unseemly postpones them. A draft law and two petitions for clemency are waiting on his desk to be signed. But the head of state prefers to spend his days secretly smoking on the roof of the Quirinal Palace and conjuring up the memory of his deceased wife. He is also preoccupied with philosophical questions: Who do they actually belong to, our days? Grace, he argues, lies in the beauty of doubt. Thus, as a politician, he now practices an endearing deceleration. Meanwhile, his daughter, also an excellent lawyer and his personal advisor, is losing patience.
