The story of a teacher who founds a school in the countryside. The film illustrates the implementation of compulsory education
France 2024, Written & directed by Eric Besnard, Length: 108 minutes
DA: Alexandra Lamy, Gregory Gadebois, Jerome Kircher and others.
This film, which sees a teacher move to the countryside in 1889 to teach peasant children, joins the ranks of portraits of heroic teachers that occupy a place of honor in French cinema. Louise Violet's mission takes her into hostile territory. As a single woman from distant Paris, she causes offense and suspicion. The value placed on her is reflected in her accommodation, a stable on Mayor Joseph's estate. There she waits in vain for pupils every day. Only when Joseph, who is warming to Louise, takes action do the children arrive and enthusiastically follow Louise's lessons.
