Professional artists or artist groups residing in the Mecklenburg Lake District were invited to apply for this projectwith an exhibition concept of their work. The occasion is the 250th birthday of the great Romantic artist Caspar David Friedrich, who was born in Greifswald and whose maternal ancestors came from Neubrandenburg.

From 14 applications, the jury nominated Monika Bertermann, Kerstin Borchardt & Rainer Viltz, Axel Heller, Katharina Neuweg, Bernhard Schrock, Juli Schupa and Ramona Seyfarth. Their exploration of Caspar David Friedrich has resulted in paintings, unique works on paper, photographs, objects as well as sound and spatial installations that focus today's attention on the great German painter, graphic artist and draughtsman.

The exhibition will be accompanied by a 48-page catalog priced at EUR 12.00, which is expected to be available in early 2025.

The exhibition and catalog are funded by the Ministry of Science, Culture, Federal and European Affairs of the State of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
