    Conductor: GMD Daniel Geiss

Sergei Prokofiev: Symphony No. 1 in D major op. 25 ("Symphonie classique")

Sergei Prokofiev: Violin Concerto No. 1 in D major op. 19

Maurice Ravel: "Tzigane", Rhapsody for violin and orchestra

Maurice Ravel: "La Valse", Poème chorégraphique for orchestra

The young violinist Alexandra Tirsu, who stepped in as soloist in Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto at short notice in 2023, returns and can once again demonstrate her musicality and technical brilliance in Prokofiev's 1st Violin Concerto and Ravel's Rhapsody "Tzigane".

Maurice Ravel's "La Valse" was commissioned by impresario Sergei Dyagilev, who wanted to use it as ballet music. However, the reminiscence of "Vienna and its Waltzes", in which Ravel had drawn on older material, did not appeal. "La Valse" was therefore performed as a purely orchestral piece in Paris in 1920.

Prokofiev's first symphony is also on the program. It was inspired by the works of Haydn and Mozart. This first symphony, the so-called "Symphonie classique", was also to be his most popular.
