JULVISOR - Christmas in Scandinavia

With Christina Lutter, Guido Richarts, Marcus Hetzel, Matthias Strauch and Michael Gramm

"Julvisor" is the Swedish word for "Christmas carols" and thus the program of the quintet of the same name from Dresden, which brings its very own versions of Christmas songs from Scandinavia and Iceland to our home stages every year. Enchanting songs and virtuoso playing on various instruments transport the audience into the vastness of the Nordic winter night. Charmingly moderated and combined with short stories by Scandinavian authors, the ensemble aims its Christmas program at the hearts and minds of the audience.

"Lys i desember", or "Light in December", is the name of the new program, which features arrangements of Scandinavian Christmas classics as well as lesser-known songs, such as the Danish dance song "Nu er det tredje Juledag", which is full of despair over empty pantries and bottles of schnapps on the "third day of Christmas", while the archaic setting of the poem "Tomten" tells the story of how the famous Swedish Christmas elf has been watching over the house and farm, people and animals at night for many hundreds of winters.
