Ornithological hike with Peter Boye from the Friends' Association. Bonus topic: Songs and sounds
The second ornithological walk focusing on songbirds will take place on May 3 in Dargun. At this time of year, the trees are already leafy or in full bloom. Many birds have moved into their territories and started breeding, while others are just returning from their winter quarters. The songs of native songbirds can be heard clearly and intensely, especially in the early hours of the morning. These are not only used to impress potential mates, but also to assert their own territory against conspecifics.
Recognizing and assigning the various bird melodies is often a challenge for nature enthusiasts. The different habitats of the individual species provide important clues to their respective way of life. To get to know the diversity of bird calls better, the Mecklenburg Schweiz and Lake Kummerow Nature Park Association invites you to a special bird call hike led by experienced ornithologist Peter Boje from Teterow.
During the walk, special attention will be paid to the different songs and sounds of the birds. Peter Boje explains the differences between the often similar-sounding songs and noises and shows vivid examples, such as the songs of the sparrow hawk and nightingale or the knocking noises of various woodpecker species. His explanations provide a fascinating insight into the world of native bird species.
The meeting point for the hike is on Sunday, May 3 at 6 a.m. in Dargun in the parking lot of the monastery/castle complex (next to the Lütt Museum). From there, we will walk about three kilometers through the surrounding area. You should bring binoculars to observe the birds.
