Auguste, the Christmas goose, is settling in at the Löwenhaupts'. But what's for Christmas roast?
St. Nicholas morning at Löwenhaupt's. Kammersänger Luitpold Löwenhaupt is in the final rehearsals for the new production and his wife Gerlinde, a teacher, also has her head full. In all the hustle and bustle, they have forgotten to fill their children Lohengrin and Isolde's Santa Claus stockings. Embarrassed, Father Löwenhaupt promises a special surprise. He buys a live goose from the organic farmer and an axe to go with it, as the animal is to be the Christmas roast. Auguste settles in at the Löwenhaupt house, the children take her for walks on a lead, she occasionally chats about life on the organic farm and even chases off a burglar. But the day that is to be her last draws ever closer. Löwenhaupt pulls out his axe, but he can't kill. Are sleeping pills the solution? Temporarily, yes. But Auguste wakes up and finally appears under the Christmas tree wearing a sweater. And what's for the feast?
