Mamma Medea

Mamma Medea

    Mamma Medea

    by Tom Lanoye

At home, in the anarchic, strictly patriarchal Colchis, Medea feels secure but has few freedoms.

When the daring adventurers from distant, progressive Greece land, a new world opens up for Medea: freedom, passion, love, a life beyond convention. She sacrifices all her principles for the love of Jason and the prospect of moving with him, becoming the murderer of her brother and father. They flee Colchis together, marry and finally arrive in Corinth, where Medea herself becomes a stranger.

Years later, the sacrifices she has made seem to have been in vain: The relationship is in ruins, Jason meets another woman, and their two children are also suffering, things are spiraling out of control... The tragic end is unstoppable.

A modern battle of the sexes, a marital war to which the children fall victim, but in a new version, killed by both parents who are once again close to each other in guilt.
